Chichén Itzá
One of the most famous cities of the Mayan culture. The name comes from the Mayan Chich'en Itza, i.e. on the edge of the Itza well. Visit this magical place with us and more! During our journey, we will also visit the beautiful colonial city of Valladolid, we will literally look under the hood of the preparation of the most famous Mexican alcoholic drink - Tequila, and in the afternoon we will cool off while swimming in one of the thousands of Cenotes.
Kukulkan's pyramid
Kukulkan's pyramid is the most famous structure in Chichen Itza. Kukulkan (or also Quetzalcoatl) is the main Mayan god, he is the god of the sun and the heavens. The pyramid has a square plan and 91 steps lead to the top from each side. During the spring and autumn equinoxes at sunset, the light creates a special effect that makes the snake sculptures on the sides of the staircase look like they are crawling up the side of the pyramid. The snake was also a symbol of the god Kukulkán.
Observatory
Another well-known building is the so-called Observatory. It is a structure whose roof is dome-shaped but not closed at the top. The Mayans apparently watched the stars from here. They had no lenses or anything like that, all observation was done by eye alone.
